Tree-sort

I have never really considered myself a 'doer' on the grounds that sitting around doesn't bore me into action. However, it's recently come to my attention that other people marvel at the things I have managed to do, such as move to Seattle. This fascinates me, because it really isn't that difficult. I make up my mind about something and then do it. I can be very stubborn, and once an idea is in my head it will not leave until something has been done about it.

That was the case with the Out 'n' About Treesort in Oregon, where the rooms are treehouses. I read an article about it online in January and within a few days Lis and I had agreed upon a weekend and booked ourselves a mini-vacation. There are so many cool things in this world, there to be sampled, so why not? WHY NOT?

Our room was really more of a cabin on stilts than a treehouse, but that wasn't really a huge disappointment. Especially since we got our own parking space. The interior was extremely nice, as were the flannel sheets they had on the bed. There was electricity, a space heater and a mini-fridge. Unfortunately all the bathrooms were in separate buildings but the walk wasn't that far. (So much closer and more homelike than any camp I've ever been to.) They provided a breakfast every morning and there was a fire pit and kitchen available to all patrons. The only thing I will lament is the lack of free coffee at all hours of the day. Isn't that a thing? Shouldn't it be a thing? I think so. 10am is too early to be cut off.

This was our cabin: Serendipitree. They all had names like this: Majestree, Cavaltree, Pleasantree. Even the workers were referred to as "Tree Fairies." Yeah, it got a little old after a while, but it's their thing, and I signed on for it.

So that top bit is where the bed was lofted. The bottom half was a our own little sitting room that we spent the majority of the weekend in, writing, reading and playing games.

These are some of the walkways to some of the other houses and then the main building is on the right.

There were a few chickens that ran around the property, along with a puppy or two. There were horses you could take out on guided rides and also a few ziplines. There was a pool that had been fashioned out of stones and diverted creek-water. It almost made me wish it had been warmer, although there were enough spiders and moths at this time of year that I wasn't wishing very hard.

Despite the rain it was a glorious and much needed vacation. There was absolutely nothing pressing on our time and it wasn't considered weird to go out in a rain jacket, work-out pants, knee-length socks and flip flops. I have also discovered that one of my all-time favourite smells is smoke from a real fire. I never feel as calm and happy as I do in the middle of the woods with a crackling fire in front of me.

So if you're ever in Southern Oregon and need a weekend away, I recommend giving this place a try. Especially if you still have childhood dreams of Lothlorien, Neverland or the Ewok Village.
