I am more than a little excited for the year to come, in which four friends live in an old house in Seattle and make their own adventures.
Last weekend my friend Lis and I spearheaded the move to Ballard. Our new place is a cute 1920's era house about 15 blocks from our favourite cafe in all of Seattle. There is an apple tree in the back and raspberry brambles growing along the fence. We have a large yard perfect for summer parties and tanning on the lawn. One of the first things we did in our new house was set up the kitchen. I have decided you can tell a lot about a person by the things they give priority to during a move. Our beds didn't make the cut, but all of our cooking paraphernalia did. And what better way to consecrate a new kitchen than by baking bread? Our first dinner was eaten on the floor of the expansive living room: grilled cheese on homemade bread and grapes. As for the beds, they still haven't been properly set up. But not to worry, we rose to the challenge in true style- a lovely, spacious blanket fort has been erected in the middle of the living room and we've been sleeping in it. The floor is actually getting quite comfortable and the magic never wears off of sleeping in a fort. The front porch of the house gets a lot of sun (yes, it exists here) in the afternoon and one day a cat decided to join us on it. He is a "porch cat," one who doesn't live with us but is welcome to abide on the porch whenever he pleases. We named him Outlaw. He is very friendly, will speak when spoken to and is amazingly soft. This last picture is more of a promise of things to come. My time the past couple of days has been occupied by dirt and a lot of it. There is going to be a proper garden in Albion. Which, by the way, is the name of our house in polite company. In rather less savoury company it will be affectionately known as The Gin Palace.
