Well, I've been meaning to start this part of my blog for almost a year now. I had always intended for it to be a place for me to review things: books, movies, articles, songs, foods, etc. Because everyone wants and needs to know my opinions in every aspect of society. Honestly though, I meant to start it so I could share whenever I came across a particularly brilliant book or to weigh in on popular movies.
Which is why I am going to start with Taylor Swift's new music video for Bad Blood. If you haven't seen it yet, please enjoy the following:

I had never heard the song before the music video came out, which was a good thing. Truthfully, I don't think it is a great song; it is too repetitive and banal to really be a favorite. I probably would never listen to it if I didn't have the video to watch at the same time.
Which brings us to the point of this little post: I LOVE THIS VIDEO. I have watched it multiple times in the past week, and have enjoyed it every time. And immediately after seeing it for the first time, I knew that I would pay to see it as a full-length film. I would. Yes, a tiny part of me was concerned for about a second about the implications of so much female-on-female violence. But as I worked out the potential plot for this 2017 Blockbuster-Box-Office-Smasher, it ended up being a non-issue.
For you see, what this video is really about has nothing to do with a celebrity feud. In fact, it is a futuristic vision of what might happen if AI ever did gain consciousness and develop personalities.
Welvin Da Great is a foremost scientist who, through generous funding by casino owner and professional poker player Lucky Fiori, has managed to create a veritable dollhouse of sentient robots. It has taken many years, many failures, and lots of upgrades, but now he has a solid team of AI super-spies.
The girls are allowed to develop their own personalities, fighting styles and sartorial choices. The only requirement is that they are loyal to him and Lucky Fiori, and complete the missions they are given to the best of their abilities. All the women agree to this, and are happy living under the tutelage of Headmistress, who is the oldest and most advanced AI of the group.
Until Arsyn decides differently. She begins to question why they are allowed to have so much freedom of personality without actually being free. So she betrays Catastrophe, steals the briefcase, and goes off on her own, to find the freedom that Welvin and Lucky Fiori deny her.
But the world is a nasty place and she needs help. She starts work on her own band of AIs, but is unable to match the quality of the originals in time, which is why her fighters at the end of the video have covered faces.
Meanwhile Catastrophe returns to home base, where she is given maintenance and an upgrade. Her new mission is to train as hard as she can with the other women, and when she is ready, to recover Arsyn.
Is she told why Arsyn left? Does she know it is a question of freedom or does she blindly believe Arsyn betrayed her trust selfishly? Is it selfish of Arsyn to want a life apart? Who will win in the end? Arsyn and her freedom fighters? Or Catastrophe and her backers?
My money is on one huge epic fight, a deathbed confession, and then an even more epic collaboration that hints at a sequel.
